Birds Bay is located in Bois des rêves, Ottignies (Beglium) and has a
ministerial approval to rescue and retain Belgian wildlife. Since 1998, Birds
Bay is a WRC (Wildlife Rescue Center) recognized and subsidized by the Walloon
Region. It is member of the Belgian Royal League for Birds Protection.
Doctor Delphine
Gregoire is the Official rescue center vet and is available for all emergencies concerning wild animals of all
hairs or feathers (therefore no dogs, cats and new pets).
In 2003, Birds
Bay hosted a hundred of Troïl’s Guillemots, which have been oiled after the
Erika’ boat sinking.
The main goal is
rescuing and relising all Belgian wildlife as soon as their condition allows
them. They are released into the suitable biotope during the most favourable
period of time.
Volunteer at Birds Bay
Birds Bay is my first voluntary for wildlife. At only 11 years old a spent days and weekends helping at the center.
As volunteer, I participated in animals cares, food preparation, enrichments and cleaning staff.
Animals been rescued after car collision, hit by hunting, traumatized by cats or dogs bites or by traps or electric wires, …
I spent many hours buckling or feeding orphans such as chicks, squirrel, hedgehogs, martens, hares or wild rabbits.
Which must be fed with a specific food many times a day and sometimes even at night.
If they can’t be released immediately, animals are hospitalized. Volunteers are present every day to provide them good cares. As soon as their condition allows them, animals are released into a suitable biotope during a favorable period.
